All round columns are available in Fiberglass, Synthetic Stone, FRP, and GFRC. Fiberglass Porch Columns are the most common and the best value if you intend to put the pillars into place, paint, and forget about them (use high quality paint to avoid frequent re-painting). Synthetic Stone comes in a variety of prefinished colors and textures. The product is significantly lighter than natural stone but looks like stone, lasts longer, and costs significantly less. Fiber Reinforced Polymer or FRP is also a fiberglass product but uses much more fiber strand reinforcements than the traditional cast columns mentioned previously. FRP is thinner, therefore lighter, than the rest and is made from similar material to that of composite boat hulls. It is very economical when used as column surrounds (2 halves reassembled around a structural support to form a full column) and especially when larger diameter sizes are required (14″ and up). Fiber Reinforced Polymer Columns are usually shipped as 2 halves and come with lap joints for quick reassembly and installation (assembled full columns available upon request). This product comes with a white marine-grade gelcoat but is available in virtually any prefinished color, texture, or aggregate. GFRC is a precast concrete product that is segmented and heavier compared to the other materials. GFRC, like polymer stone, is prefinished and available in virtually any color and texture.
